Sandy Flats Full Moon Ride

Join us for a sunset ride in hopes of catching the tail end of the Sturgeon moon!

Location: The Wide Prairie of Trent Hills, aka Sandy Flats Road
Ride date: August 14th
Meeting time: 6:30 pm
Meeting place: Concession Rd 3W, off Hwy 25, NW of downtown Warkworth. Parking along side of Concession Rd 3W
Level: All levels but road riding
Distance: 16 km loop to return to starting point along same route
Duration: 1.5 hours
Type: Quiet, low-traffic, paved roads with gravel shoulder (bright clothing and bike
lights strongly recommended)
Route: Mostly level plus a few mild hills
Weather: Light misty rain won’t stop us!

Description: A few hills near start and return, but maybe the flattest 8 km stretch of country road cycling you’ll find in the Trent Hills area. We park along the side of Concession Rd 3W and follow that road around a bend and over a bump to Campbell Rd. A few small humps at first but levels out quickly as we turn on to Sandy Flats Rd for a mostly flat ride. When we've all had enough or by calculation of daylight left, we'll turn around and ride back along the same route.

On a nice Summer evening this route offers great sunset views, so sunglasses and phone cameras are recommended. On our return journey we hope to see August’s full Sturgeon Moon. The last supermoon of the year!

Notes:
Please ensure your bike is in working order. Helmets are recommended. Wear bright clothing. Bikes should have a rear red flashing light, as we will be riding at dusk. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Ride single file on roads when there is traffic.
Do not pass other cyclists on the right. Shoulder check when passing; be sure to give warning (bell or voice) when passing.
Be kind and courteous.
